There are currently three known copper deposits at San Javier: Cerro Verde, Mesa Grande and La Trinidad. Copper mineralization at San Javier is prominently exposed in the towering east-facing, green stained cliffs of Cerro Verde, a prominent landform that has tantalized westbound motorists along Highway 9, in northern Sonora, for decades. Data suggests the copper-gold mineralization at San Javier represents an iron-oxide-copper-gold system hosted within intermediate felsic volcanic rocks of the Tertiary Tarahumara formation.
