TUCSON – The strike against the ASARCO Copper Mine entered week six Monday.

Strikers are still going strong near Pima Mine Road and Interstate 19.

Negotiation talks between the company and union workers broke down last Thursday after both sides failed to reach an agreement.

Workers have been on strike since Oct. 13. They claim they have not received pay raises in at least a decade.

The union also claims ASARCO has more than doubled the out-of-pocket contribution workers pay for healthcare, and has frozen its existing pension plan.

Currently, workers on strike are receiving union pay, which is about $225 per week.

Grupo Mexico, the company that owns ASARCO, has not commented on the strike since releasing a statement saying it was committed to reaching a new agreement.
