(Alliance News) – Diversified miner South32 Ltd said Monday it has appointed Guy Lansdown as independent non-executive director with effect on December 2.

Lansdown’s most recent role was at US-based Newmont Mining Corp for 20 years to 2014, leaving as executive vice-president of Discovery & Development.

“Guy Lansdown’s extensive experience in early and late stage greenfield and brownfield project

development and delivery, together with his strong technical background and strategic leadership abilities, will enhance the board’s broad range of skills and experience. His appointment will support the group’s growing presence in the Americas as we continue to advance our exploration and development projects in the region,” said Chair Karen Wood.

Shares in South32 – which is headquartered in Perth, Australia – were down 1.2% at 140.86 pence in London, while its Johannesburg shares were up 0.8% at ZAR27.02 on Monday.
