VANCOUVER, Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ – Sierra Metals Inc. (SMT) (bvl:SMT) ("Sierra Metals" or the "Company"), a Canadian mining company focused on the production of silver and base metals from  Peru and Mexico, is pleased to announce that, as part of an ongoing corporate development strategy, Victoria Vargas has joined Sierra Metals as Vice President Investor Relations and Corporate Communications. In this role, Ms. Vargas will be the primary liaison between Sierra and its investors, analysts and financial community globally.

Ms. Vargas has over 16 years of experience in the mining industry and brings a wealth of experience in investor relations and stakeholder communications to Sierra. In addition to her investor relations expertise, she also has over 10 years of experience in corporate communications and seats on several advisory board capacities with Mexican mining industry organizations. She holds an honors B.Sc. in Economics with an MBA in Finance.

Ms. Vargas started her career in 1996 at Kinross Gold Corporation where she held a variety of financial and corporate development positions for a period of 7 years. In 2003, Victoria joined Alamos Gold Inc. where she led the IR department for almost 6 years. Prior to joining Sierra Metals she has held roles with a variety of publicly traded mining sector companies. These include Iberian Minerals, Romarco, Greystar Resources and most recently Scorpio Mining. Ms. Vargas has demonstrated expertise in corporate communications and institutional relationship management.
