Mexico has launched a new phase in its mining policy aimed at reducing dependence on strategic minerals from abroad and strengthening the national economy. This was announced by the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, through his social media, in line with the directives of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
“In accordance with President Sheinbaum’s instructions, a new stage of Mexican mining begins, focused on reducing mineral dependence and protecting the national economy,” Ebrard posted, emphasizing the shift in the management of the country’s mineral resources.
This strategy seeks to ensure sovereignty in key sectors such as technology, energy, and automotive industries through the responsible use of national resources. The announcement aligns with the economic transformation policy promoted by the new government, which has placed special emphasis on strategic self-sufficiency and a just energy transition.
While specific mechanisms have not yet been detailed, this new phase is expected to include incentives for national exploration and exploitation, regulation of exports, development of technological infrastructure for mineral processing, and partnerships with public and private companies under new conditions.
