December 6 (Renewables Now) – Mining giant Grupo Mexico SA de CV (BMV:GMEXICOB) on Wednesday said its infrastructure division will invest USD 250 million (EUR 225.3m) to build the 168-MW Fenicias wind farm in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.
Chicago-based renewables developer LLC has been tasked with developing the project, the miner said.
The project will include the construction of a 60-km-plus transmission line in Reynosa, in the state of Tamaulipas, to connect Fenicias to the national electricity grid SEN, according to the group’s press release.
The wind farm is scheduled to start operations in early 2021. It will produce electricity for industrial use, with its expected output hitting more than 680 GWh per year.
Once Fenicias is commissioned, Grupo Mexico’s infrastructure division will boost its power generation capacity to close to 800 MW, the miner said.
According to its official website, Grupo Mexico Infraestructura runs a combined-cycle power plant La Caridad of 500 MW and the 74-MW El Retiro wind farm in Mexico.
